Janet Dowsett chats to the audiance
Janet Dowsett started the first half of her concert wearing a back dress with a gold bodice, as she sat at the EL900 Keith lit the stage a nice shade of blue that changed to red as Janet opened the show with Red Roses for a Blue Lady.
Next it was the Theatre organ sound and the first march of the evening Blaze
Away. This was followed by a number from 1969 and the pen of Simon and Garfuncle, Bridge Over Troubled Water.
A medley of tunes from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang followed, this included not only the main theme but also Hushaby
Mountain, Truly Scrumptious and lots more.
Itzhak Perlman was the violinist who played the haunting music composed by John Williams for Schindlers List, Janets version was just as haunting as the original. Keith had fun with the next piece, Magic Fingers, or as Janet said it should have been magic bubbles as the front of the stage was filled with bubbles.
Chabrier's Espana was a piece Janet always wanted to play but she didn't know the composer or what it was called until visiting a steam fair and riding on a galloper that was playing this very tune, we heard it played in theatre organ style.
A selection of music composed by Gilbert and Sullivan, played using many parts of the orchestra, was next. The pieces
included music from the Gondoliers, Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore
The last piece of the first half was Splanky.
Janet had changed into a red dress for the second half of the concert, the first number, Elianora, was played theatre organ style with piano. This was followed by more orchestral sounds for a haunting Garth Brooks number If Tomorrow Never Comes.
Mac and Mable was made famous by Torvill and
Deans ice dance routine at the Olympics. Janet played the Torvill and Dean version that has all the main themes in the
one piece.
Next up a selection of music from radio shows, Coronation Scott from Paul Temple, Sleepy Lagoon from Desert Island
Disks, With a Song in My Heart from Two Way Family Favourites plus the music from the Archers, Dick Barton and In Town
Tonight.
Keith started up the bubbles again for Party Scene played in accordion style, Janet said the bubbles were quite cool
when they landed on her and popped, very refreshing.
Two numbers made famous by Frank Sinatra, You Make Me Feel So Young and My Way were followed
by the Londonderry Air, better known as Danny Boy, this was played alternating between choir and salvation army
band.
