I had been looking forward to this evening for weeks, having heard many favorable comments from people who had heard The Longhawn brothers in concert. The lads had just about enough space to set up all their instruments on stage: a Yamaha EL900, two Yamaha PSR 8000 keyboards, a Roland RD150 stage piano plus Richard's Alto Saxophone. So to the concert itself that began with all three boys on stage opening with a lively "Zibbedi-Do-Dah" following by an equally lively "Happy Days Are Here Again". A change of tempo with an Andy Williams number "Can't Take My Eyes Of You".
Having accomplished that David & Richard left 12year old Martin in charge for solo renditions of "Moonlight Serenade" and nicely linked to that "At Last". This he followed with a Quickstep medley, which gave Keith a chance to have fun with the lights with rhythmically activated multi colored shapes swirling round the hall.
With the possibility of being able to book flights into space within the next few years, it was appropriate to hear an old Frank Sinatra favorite "Fly Me To The Moon" with Richard being accompanied on his Saxophone by Martin on the piano and David on the PSR8000.
Now it was David's turn to play solo, playing a 1980 Bill Withers composition "Just The Two Of Us". With David on the piano and Richard on the Alto Sax we had a lovely rendition of "La Mer" followed by "Mac The Knife". A most enjoyable rendition of Val Morrison's "Moondance" was next with David on the EL900 and Martin on the piano. Chris de Burgh's "The Lady In Red" got a look in before continuing with the beautiful "Debut Waltz", written specially for the lads by a friend of theirs, Pat Sadler. Organ & keyboard versions of this score are available at their concerts. With Keith displaying multi coloured "Happy Anniversary" slogans round the stage, "Love Changes Everything" from A.L. Webber's 'Aspects Of Love' was dedicated Ann & John's Pearl Wedding Anniversary on October 5th.
With refreshments and the raffle over, it was time to get the second half underway. They started with the lively "Brentwood March", also composed by their friend Pat Sadler. Time for some Big Band Music in the shape of the "Swinging Shepherd". A nostalgic look back at the Sixties with a tune made famous by Petula Clark "Downtown" followed by "Dancing In The Street". James Last's "Mornings at Seven" is always popular with audiences; Martin ensured we all stayed awake with the 'church clock chiming 7 times'!
The weather is always a popular topic of conversation; "On A Clear Day" was played in jazzy style. Another A.L. Webber composition "Amigos Para Siempre" (Friends Forever). It was, of course, the theme tune for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. They then continued with a selection from the ever popular musical "The Sound Of Music", which will no doubt be on our TV screens before the year is out.
The music by the Carpenters has stood the test of time, so it was nice to hear a couple of tunes that made them famous. Well, they say that time flies when you are enjoying yourself. The last selection was entitled "Pomp & Circumstance" which was played by David on the EL900, with Martin turning the pages for his brother. Pity we did not have Union Jacks to wave whilst we all launched into a patriotic version of 'Land Of Hope & Glory'.
The hall was buzzing with the lads having come to the end of their concert and naturally would not let them go without an encore. They duly obliged with a Dixieland Medley which included "When The Saints Go Marching In" and also "Sweet Georgia Brown".

It had been a thoroughly enjoyable evening with the Longhawn Trio. They are three highly talented young men, with Martin still only 14, Richard 16 and David 19 years old. Martin has also just passed his Grade 1 trumpet exam with distinction with Richard passing his grade 8 piano. And of course we all heard how Richard excelled on the Alto Sax.

Why not come along to a Basildon Keyboard Club Concert, you will be made very welcome, have a great evenings entertainment, a complimentary cup of tea or coffee with biscuits and of course experience the delights of live music played on top of the range electronic organs & keyboards by the best players.
