Penny Weedon plays EL900
The B K C was privileged on Saturday to host one of the last performances by Penny Weedon, Due to her decision to retire from the organ circuit. Penny left us with a dazzling performance with Music from Vienna. with the hall beautifully decorated in flowers ,and the stage a mass of flowers and coloured lights.
Penny assisted by husband Tony took us to Vienna with the wonderful music by J. Strauss The Blue Danube, then on to two lively pieces "The Trish Trash Polka" followed by "The Annen Polka". The next piece slowed the tempo down with a piece Penny used to play when she was just 13yrs old called "The Moon". Mesmerised by the sound coming from Pennys Yamaha E.L.900 the music continued with the "Merry Widow Waltz and "Vienna Life" and two lovely pieces Bonne Bouch followed by "Acclamations".
Listening to such wonderful music the time wizzed by and the first half was nearing the end, but not before hearing the "Musical Sleigh Ride" by Mozart and the beautiful "Skaters Waltz" and finally ending with the "Thunder & Lightning Polka".
We all knew that with the first half as good as this we were in for a fantastic second half.
Hammerstein" music from the musical show "Sound of Music" accompanied with lovely choir sounds and voices and excellent registrations.
This was followed by a Strauss composition called "Tales From The Vienna Woods". Next was a very lively number played in a Hungarian style called "Czards", and then a surprise for us all, Penny was so impressed by the Viennese music13yrs a go she composed two waltzes herself which she played for us.
Now it was the turn of the audience, and with husband Tony on stage leading we embarked in some thigh slapping and clapping to the music of "Vienna for Aye" and "Homages".
Alas the time, once again had flown by and it was time for Penny to play her last piece, a fitting number to end with from Mr. Strauss himself called "Emperor Waltz".
With the audience showing their delight at having enjoyed a fantastic night of music they called for a encore which Penny duly supplied with the "Radetsky March".
As I said earlier this was our last concert from Penny as she retires on 20th January, we send her our very best wishes for a very happy retirement. She will be sadly missed not only for her wonderful friendship and personality
but above all for the music she creates.
Finally a huge thanks must go to the team for a fantastic display of flowers and lights, without them the concert would not have been the success it was
