Joyce & Tom's appearances at previous Charity Concerts prompted John & myself to offer them their own concert evening. With Valentines Day not far away, they were appropriately dressed in red to begin the first half of their concert.

They started to say 'Hello Mary Lou', who 'Saw The Light' in the 'Cottonfields' at a mere 'Sweet Sixteen'. Memories of Dean Martin with a medley of 'Volare' - 'Heart Of My Hearts' - 'You Made Me Love You & 'Any Time', before giving the Latin touch to 'Give Me Your Word' & 'Your Eyes Are The Eyes Of A Woman In Love'.

The Mavericks 'Danced The Night Away' before surprisingly being 'Stone Cold Dead In The Market'! A bit of Honky Tonk piano with 'I'm The One Who Loves You' & 'A Fool Such As I', before going to Dixieland with 'Hello Dolly' - 'Mame' - & 'Fanlight Fanny'.

Time for Keith to have fun with swirling shapes while we learnt that 'Love Grows Where Rosemary Grows' & 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. Next we enjoyed a 'New World In The Morning' and 'Girl In The Wood'.

After a lively 'Spirit In The Sky' & 'Sweet Caroline', Tom took a brief rest from the singing whilst Joyce played us a beautiful classical piece of music by Edward Elgar: 'Chanson De Martin'. Well done Joyce!

By now our two artistes were gasping for a cup of tea, but not before they performed 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' & 'Rhinestone Cowboy'.

Time for the rest of us to partake in some refreshments as well, for Joyce and Tom to take a well deserved break and to change into their yellow and black outfits.

With the raffle over, we were ready to enjoy the second half of the evening, which started with a lovely selection of "Showbiz" tunes, accompanied by Keith's fun shapes, namely 'Oklahoma' - 'June is Bustin Out' - 'I'm Getting Married In The Morning' & 'There Is No Business Like Showbusiness'. 'Country Roads' & 'Try A Little Kindness' followed before Glenn Miller made an appearance with 'I Love The Rainy Night' and 'Chattanooga Choo Choo'.

A bit more country with 'There'll Never Be Anyone Else' & 'From Jack To A King'. Back to the shows with 'Truly Truly Fair' & 'The Best Of Times'. Time to catch up with some jazz, namely 'Lullaby Of Birdland' & 'I've Got You Under My Skin'.

'Everything I Own' was followed by a couple of romantic tunes: 'Arreviderci Roma' & 'It's Now Or Never'. We did not have to ask to 'Fly Me To The Moon' with 'My Kind Of Girl' before spending 'Saturday Night At The Movies' and the invitation to 'Come Over To My Place'.

Time to slow things down a bit with 'Pretty Baby' - 'April Showers' - 'Once In A While' & an old favourite 'Dance In The Old Fashioned Way'. Two lively sambas next: 'Love Me Tonight' & 'Gonna Live Till I Die'. And who could face a 'World Without Love', which concluded Joyce & Tom's concert.

Basildon tradition demands an encore. We were not disappointed, but asked to join in with 'Boiled Beef' - 'Any Old Iron' - 'My Old Man' & finally 'Bill Bailey'.

Well, what can I/we say except a huge Thank You to them both for entertaining us so superbly. Tom sang his way through some fifty-six tunes! A superb achievement bearing in mind that Tom was in the early throws of a cold. Apart from her solo slot Joyce accompanied Tom on her Yamaha PSR2000. What a fine player she is - and not a note or score in front of her!

Both insisted that they would accept no more than some expenses; they kindly donated £106 to the Tsunami Relief Operation. Many thanks Joyce & Tom! Not forgetting Keith making a superb job on the lights again, the team and last but not least to those of you who attended and so enjoyed the evening.

Why not come along to a Basildon Keyboard Club Concert, you will be made very welcome, have a great evenings entertainment, a complimentary cup of tea or coffee with biscuits and of course experience the delights of live music played on top of the range electronic organs & keyboards by the best players.
