This was Robert Davies' first visit to our club. First heard 'in concert' at the Lyme Bay Festival in October 2004 he was booked there and then. Many of you may have heard him at other festivals - more than likely playing for dancing.

Robert himself first built the 280CT some 12 years ago, however, it has undergone a number of changes to bring and keep the organ up to date.

He began his varied program with a medley of marches, which included That's Entertainment - The Best Of Times & What A Wonderful Day Like Today. Next a song performed by the El Diro group on the M. Parkinson show, the tune: Unbreak My Heart before continuing with a medley from West Side Story: I Feel Pretty - Maria - Tonight - I'd Like To Be In America & Somewhere, showing off some superb orchestral and choir voices.

The Chorus From the Hebrew Slaves took us from Italy to Austria with a lively polka: Vienna Forever inclusive of yodelling! Churchbells and guitars then led us into a fine rendition with some music from Tosca.

Back to the 70's with some Franz Lambert music: The Girls From Paramaibo. The audience were then invited to participate in a Russian Medley of Midnight In Moscow - St. Louis Blues & Rasputin. Next Glenn Miller's Sentimental Blues played in Klaus Wunderlich style. Nice to hear a Dionne Warwick ballad again I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again.

Revolving shapes to each side of the stage enhanced some much loved ABBA tunes, namely Money Money - Fernando - Voulez Vous & 'Thank You For The Music, thus bringing to an end a very entertaining first half. Refreshments and the raffle over, we were all ready for some more superb music. With the background appropriately green we had the words and music from War Of The Worlds.

This Robert followed with a lovely rendition of Forever Autumn and a very lively Down The Mall set to a red & yellow background.

A lengthy Beatles medley followed, featuring amongst others Can't Buy Me Love - Yesterday - Will You Still Love Me When I'm 64? - Michelle & All My Loving.

A beautiful oboe intro led us into Solitaire, made famous, of course, by Neil Sedaka.

Another classical piece with the Second Waltz by Schostakovich, which was used in the film "Anna Karenina". I really must give credit to Robert's well thought out medleys, so mentioning Food Glorious Food - As Long As He Needs Me - Pick A Pocket Or Two & Consider Yourself meant we had a nice selection from Lionel Bart's "Oliver".

Andrew Lloyd Webber's music remains as popular as ever, with Robert delighting us with the theme from Jesus Christ Superstar - I Don't Know How To Love Him from Evita, Memory From Cats - Angel Of Music & not to mention Masquerade from Phantom Of The Opera.

Robert used to play the piano for a German choir touring the country with them. Luckily he retained the score from "Casanova" by Johann Strauss, from which we had a super choral arrangement of the Nuns Chorus. Sadly we were coming to the end of the evening, but not before we had Moonlight Serenade and one of Robert's favourites, namely Music.

The audience would not let him go before they had their traditional Basildon encore, Baby Don't You Cry played in Discotime.

Why not come along to a Basildon Keyboard Club Concert, you will be made very welcome, have a great evenings entertainment, a complimentary cup of tea or coffee with biscuits and of course experience the delights of live music played on top of the range electronic organs & keyboards by the best players.
