Brian opened his show with From This Moment On before upping the tempo with Come Fly With Me which Keith set to a red background. He followed this with a Nat King Cole medley featuring When I Fall In Love - Mona Lisa & Unforgettable, bringing back memories of Nat's beautiful baritone voice and did you know that he gave his first organ concert at the tender age of four?
Brian lived on Bermuda for a year, but says that he missed the seasons and the rain!!!, so The Sunshine Of Your Smile and Spanish Flea were a couple of appropriate Antonio Jobim numbers. Having been given the complete trilogy of the Godfather one Christmas, Brian decided to include the theme in his program which also features an excerpt from Cavallerina Rusticana.
Brian called his next medley his 'classical corner' with music such as The Sugar Plum Fairy from the Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, the Bach Prelude & the Masquerade Waltz by Khatchaturian. A blue background led us nicely into some music by George Gershwin with a few bars from Rhapsody In Blue - I Got Rhythm - Our Love Is Here - It Ain't Necessarily So & Summertime. This was exactly the weather we were enjoying that day! So on with a tour of the UK, starting off in Ireland with Dannyboy, onto good old England with Greensleeves, up North to Scotland with the Skye Boat Song and finally finishing off in Wales with My Little Welsh Home.
Red and blue flashing lights were as lively as Brian's rendition of Tijuana Brass and to finish off the first half we had a bit of a singalong which featured amongst others Ship Ahoy - The Strand - Jolly Good Company - Hello Hello Who's Your Ladyfriend & Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside.
Following refreshments and the raffle Brian began the second half with Dashing White Snow & Roaming In The Gloaming, before he launched into a Scottish medley which featured amongst others Loch Lomond, Love A Lassie and Amazing Grace suitably set to a greenish/reddish backdrop by Keith.
Mr. Mantovani made an entrance with Charmaine, before Brian changed to a foxtrot rhythm for Manhattan. Then it was Big Band voices to the fore with The Best Is Yet To Come - I'm Beginning To See The Light & Tangerine.
Scot Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag was next on the program. A blue background was just right for Dixon Of Dock Green, which Brian followed up with Oh Mein Papa, Stranger On The Shore, the theme from the Pink Panther and to end his concert blue flashing lights accompanied the James Bond theme.
The audience had thoroughly enjoyed the evening, with music played in a nice relaxed style. The traditional encore was called for, Brian obliging with some music from the last night of the proms, Rule Britannia, Pomp & Circumstance and, of course, Land Of Hope And Glory.
