Janet is no stranger to the BKC, she plays both organ & keyboard, teaches, examines and also runs a business with her husband. She has also written several teaching books - a very busy lady!
She opened her program with Red Roses For A Blue Lady before taking us to Spain with Espana, written by the Frenchman Chabrier in 1883, with Janet showing off the organsounds on her Yamaha EL900.
The Mamma Mia film was a world success last year, Janet has included a selection from the film in her repertoire, i.e. Dancing Queen - I Do I Do - I Have A Dream - Money Money Money - The Winner Takes It All - Thank You For The Music & Mamma Mia, Keith enhancing each tune with an appropriate colour. Next a light classical piece, Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring by J.S. Bach set to a deep purple background and with plenty of organ and choirvoices. Nice.
Perhaps a little early in the year, the theme from the Snowman - Walking In The Air. Janet had to learn a number of pieces off by heart for the sales channel QVC; the selection included Whiter Shade Of Pale - Cavatina - Kiss Me Honey - Tijuana Taxi - Alexander's Ragtime Band - The Entertainer - Sugar Plum Fairy - Maple Leaf Rag - Rock Around The Clock - The Twist - Words - There Is No Business Like Showbusiness giving Keith a free hand with colours to match the music.
With everybody suitably refreshed and the raffle done, it was time to settle down for the second half which Janet opened with the lively Dizzy Fingers before playing us Hallelujah by Alexander Buerke.
One of Ann & John's favourite medleys followed, none other than Chitty Bang Bang, set to a nice red & green background and flashing lights galore. LeRoy Anderson's beautiful ballad Forgotten Dreams played on piano and strings was next to delight us set to a blue backdrop by Keith, swiftly followed by Eric Coates' Knightsbridge March.
Another popular medley which Janet has put together is entitled Cops & Robbers, although it is more to do with TV cops, sleuths and special agents, the tunes?: Murder She Wrote - Hawaii 50 - Morse - Cagney & Lacey - The Avengers - Dixon Of Dock Green - Perry Mason (with flashing car lights) - Raymond Burr & Mission Impossible. Haven't we all spent a lot of time in front of the box following these programs over the years?
Janet finished off the second half with a Glenn Miller swing medley which included amongst others Pennsylvania 6500.
Janet knows the "routine" that nobody gets away without an encore at Basildon; naturally she had a tune up her sleeve - Magic Fingers.
Thank you Janet for an entertaining evening.
Why not come along to a Basildon Keyboard Club Concert, you will be made very welcome, have a great evenings entertainment, a complimentary cup of tea or coffee with biscuits and of course experience the delights of live music played on top of the range electronic organs & keyboards by the best players.
