33065 External Restoration
August 2002

All Photographs by C.Smith

With the rapidly approaching August Bank Holiday weekend Gala at the Easy Kent Railway, efforts were made to accelerate the external restoration of 33065 so that she should make for a fine sight when carrying her re-applied Sealion nameplates. Apart from a few details, 065 just made it after a superb effort by some of the members. Here are a few highlights during the push to get the paint on and subsequent Gala during the Bank Holiday.

By 20th August 2002, 33065 was sporting red buffer beams, white roof and a first coat of BR Blue. No. 2 end was in yellow. 33063 looks on at the proceedings.

At the other end, No.1 cab still in undercoat. Note the cab ends were put into dark grey, not the usual cream undercoat as used on 33063, shown inset, during May 2000.

33065's N0.2 cab had also received new floor panels; the deteriorating condition of the wooden construction being a common problem on ageing Cromptons. 063 will have its floors done in due course.
