Helping in the Continued Operation of Two Class 33's

In January 2000, The South East Locomotive Group became the proud owners of two Class 33 locomotives, 33 063 and 33 065, moving to their new home at Shepherdswell on the East Kent Railway in March 2000. Following many months of hard work, 33 063 was successfully started on 2nd July 2000, subsequently working EKR passenger trains in its mid-1980's BR Blue livery. 33063 joined our operational Ruston Diesel Shunter, 427 operating most weekends during the operating season. In July 2001, 33065 was successfully restarted and subsequently restored to 1990's BR Blue with off-white roof and red buffer-beams, in August 2002. '427' was released from SELG ownership in Jan'04.

In the Autumn of 2004, the decision was taken to relocate the Group to the Tunbridge Wells West-based Spa Valley Railway, with immediate effect.

One of, if not, the highlight for the Group in recent years was the naming of 33063 as "R.J.Mitchell" on 5th September 2005. Months of loco prep, hundreds of man-hours, a few unforeseen incidents and much burning of candles of both ends culminated in a fantastic naming day inculsive of Spitfire flypast. Just see the DVD to see what you missed!

MEMBERS
Some of the Group members gather round 33065 during a Gala weekend at the Kent & East Sussex Rly..

Having two, 40+ year-old locos means there is quite a bit of work, but we do find time to play!

Towards the end of 2005, 33065 is due to come out of traffic to take its turn for major bodywork, mechanical and electrical attention. '065 may not see active service again until 2008.

To help in both financial and moral support, the SELG are offering three levels of membership to the Group. They are:-

SUPPORTERS MEMBERSHIP
The first level of entry attracting a subscription rate for the year of £15 (12 months from the date of joining) . The funds generated from the Supporters Group will be put towards the costs of maintaining and operating the locomotive (s). Supporters are also invited to participate in any South East Locomotive Group activities at the Spa Valley Railway or otherwise. Supporters will also receive the latest information regarding the Group (including Class 33 operating dates) and Class 33 activity, through our Newsletter.
Anyone wishing to join the Supporters Group membership should complete the simple form that can be downloaded. Print it off and send, together with a cheque/postal order for £15 made payable to 'South East Locomotive Group', to:
