    Status : Received an engine room repaint in January 2002.
    Continued to be a reliable and regular performer at the Swanage Railway and worked a series
    of evening firework specials on the 27th July/3rd August 2002. Currently, 012 is receiving
    major attention to the power unit and will hopefully be returned to traffic in time for the
    Swanage Annual Diesel Gala on the Saturday 24th November 2002.
    Continues to see operational use at the Swanage Railway whilst full restoration continues.
    Latest work completed includes full replacement of the cab floor panels. The locomotive also
    worked a special organised in connection with a visit by Hertfordshire Railtours on 28th April 2001.
    Restored to working order Summer 1999 and repainted into Green shortly after.

    Status : Finally moved by road from Motherwell to Bo'ness on 3rd May merely hours before the May Diesel Gala!
    Volunteers worked through the night completing repairs the hydrostatic fan and fitting batteries to
    enable the locomotive to make its preservation passenger debut less than 24hrs later when it worked the
    19.00 'Beerex' from Bo'ness to Birkhill with a Class 26 on 4th May. The locomotive was reunited
    with its 'Griffon' nameplates the following day and temporarily fitted with Motherwell 'Anvil' depot plaques.
    The locomotive worked its first solo trains on 6th May and has since received further attention including
    re-wiring the headlight, changing a fuel pump, changing seals on the heat exchanger and had a
    traction motor blower replaced in late July. The locomotive was due to operate the Diesel Gala on
    7th/8th September 2002.

    Named : Eastleigh - 09/97
    Status : Moved from Carnforth to Fragonset's workshops at Derby in Spring to enable electrical
    repairs to take place to return the locomotive to traffic following its failure in May 2001. Whilst out
    of traffic the locomotive also received an exam, main generator repairs and a full repaint into Fragonset
    Black livery retaining 'Eastleigh' nameplates. The locomotive was released to traffic on the afternoon
    of 17th May just in time to work light engine to Crewe with 33 108 to work the 33 111 Charters railtour
    from Crewe to Largs, Stranraer and Glasgow. After successfully completing the most arduous of test runs
    the locomotive along with 33 108 has been hired to South West Trains arriving in Southampton on the
    morning of 28th June 2002 in the consist of the 22.35 Crewe Basford Hall – Southampton freightliner
    and then worked light engines to Woking. The locomotives have been hired as SWT Thunderbirds for the
    forthcoming leaf fall season and are currently being used for driver training. Locomotive has had a crest
    fitted above the nameplates depicting a bird in flight.
    Saw much activity in April 2001 starting with hauling 'The Marches Marauder' railtour single handed
    from Crewe to Dungeness and return. The locomotive then made a Crompton debut at the North York
    Moors Railway Diesel Gala on 28th/29th April. The following week on 5th May the locomotive stood in
    for an unavailable Class 31 when it worked in tandem with 31 459 on a Green Tours charter from Preston
    to Edinburgh. The locomotive was set to repeat the performance a week later but failed prior to departure
    and was replaced by another Class 31. Remains out of traffic following its failure in early May 2001.
    It seems the cause of the failure was a small electrical fire and rewiring is now required before the
    locomotive can return to operational use.
    Operated + utilised by Fragonset as Depot Shunter. Mainline Certification and repaint
    into Fragonset Livery to follow in near future. Allocated SDFR sector on17/9/97).

    The locomotives were moved back north to Glasgow Works for overhaul on 22nd February towed by 37 612 as the
    0Z47 09.15 Kingmoor – Glasgow Works.
    33 025 has been released from Glasgow Works following repairs in full DRS blue livery and retaining a full
    set of snowploughs. The locomotive was collected by 33 030 on 9th July 2002 with both locomotives
    powering backto Kingmoor. The locomotive was placed in the XHSS pool on 14th June 2002 and allocated
    mysteriously to Sellafield (SD) rather than Kingmoor (KD). The locomotive has subsequently transferred to
    the operational XHSD pool on 12th July 2002 and allocated correctly to Kingmoor (KD) later in the month.
    33 025 had an eventful first few days back in traffic;
    10/7/02 33 025 & 33 030 towed 37 610 from Kingmoor to Loughborough and returned with 20 305.
    18/7/02 33 025 & 37 602 worked 7C48 Sellafield – Kingmoor
    19/7/02 33 025 rescued the 1S75 12.30 Euston – Glasgow from Eden Valley – Carlisle after the
    failure of 87 002!!
    33 025 was also a star attraction at the Keighley and Worth Valley Diesel Gala on 3rd/4th August and
    worked over to the Gala with 20 303/20 308 via Carnforth to collect some coaching stock. The locomotive
    performed faultlessly on several return trips including a working in tandem with 33 201!
    Most recent update, 33 030 and 33 025 have been used by DRS to launch the new Minimodal
    freight service at the NRM, York on 12th September. For the record they worked, top n tail
    0746 6Z33 Carlisle - York NRM with 1 x IKA & 1 x IFA.

    Status :Broken up on 27th June 2001 at EMR Kingsbury.
    (note: resident at Stratford for its last 12 years, 33038 finally left by road on 22nd June 2001.
    Transported to EMR Kingsbury, what was left of the heavily stripped loco was broken up within a week.
    It is believed no other Class 33 had waited so long for disposal after withdrawal, having been set aside
    as long ago as 3rd October 1988! The loco suffered collision damage (runaway wagons) at Snowdon Colliery,
    Kent, when paired with 33050 'Isle of Grain' on 5th August 1988. 038 subsequently yielded parts to 050.

    Previous intention was to move it to Barrow Hill for component recovery.

    Status : Suffered damage to its Generator bearings due to a worn main generator thrust bearing.
    The Generator was taken out of the locomotive and transported to Marine Engineering, Southampton
    on 14th/15th January 2002. The repaired generator was subsequently returned and refitted, 052
    now back in traffic.
    Operational - usually restricted to engineers trains although worked first passenger train on
    21st August 1998 when rescuing a steam failure. Has been operating works trains at the
    Kent and East Sussex Railway on Mondays - Fridays in June/July 2000.

    Following bogie swap with 33 056 and repairs has returned to operational service and
    worked several trains at the recent Churnet Valley Railway Diesel Gala on 7th/8th July 2001.
    Operational - First Class 33 started in preservation 29/10/96 and first Class 33 to run in
    preservation when completed test runs commencing 15/12/96. However suffered a flashover
    12/96. Hauled first passenger trains on 1/8/98.

    Status : 33 103 has been hired by Fragonset from Cambrian Trains and the locomotive has since been moved
    from Ilford on 23rd May, arriving at Fragonset, Derby, on 24th May 2002 for attention. Locomotive
    reallocated toSDFR pool on 29th June 2002. Due for release, on hire to S.W.T., Sept/Oct. 2002.
    Out of service at Ilford awaiting a full brake overhaul and attention to its wheelsets.
    Initially moved to Llangollen Railway and worked passenger trains from
    28/6/97 - 19/10/97 when moved to Tyseley to commence restoration for mainline certification.
    Mainline certification gained on 12/9/98 following a test run from Coventry to Bletchley on
    12/9/98 and worked first mainline duties on 26/9/98 (Days Out Railtour).

    Status : 33 108 definitely retains the title of busiest Crompton of 2002!
    Following its period on hire to Virgin Trains in early 2002, it frequently performed three round trips
    per day between Crofton and Stalybridge (route learning purposes in readiness for the delivery of the new
    Voyager units), the locomotive operated further route learning runs between Derby and Crewe on 4th
    February 2002. It was then sent with 31 602 from Derby to Wolverton on 12th February to collect a rake
    of Mk 2 coaches returning as the 5Z81 13.00 Wolverton - Derby (via Crewe/Uttoxeter).
    The locomotive visited Inverness, Aberdeen and Newcastle in March with the Inspection Saloon.
    It then worked several railtours for Green Express in March/April/May and a Blackpool – Cardiff return
    footex charter in multiple with 31 602. Named 'Vampire' complete with a crest depicting an aircraft at Fragonset,
    Derby on 17th May prior to performing faultlessly on the 800+ mile railtour to Stranraer on 17th/18th May.
    Along with 33 021, 108 has been hired to South West Trains arriving in Southampton on the morning of 28th June
    in the consist of the 22.35 Crewe Basford Hall – Southampton freightliner and then worked light engines to Woking.
    021 + 108 have been hired as SWT Thunderbirds for the forthcoming leaf fall season and are currently
    being used for driver training.
    33 108 has already rescued one passenger train since the hire commenced, working the 18.40 Waterloo -
    Portsmouth Harbour from Witley – Fratton on 18th July. The locomotive has also rescued EWS 58 043 on 6M44
    Eastleigh – Wembley, recovering the train to Woking Yard on 19th July, and operated three return Waterloo –
    Alton passenger trains on Sunday 28th July as part of the Alton 150 years centenary celebrations.
    Operational - Following a power unit swap with 33 111, the locomotive completed a successful
    test run on 31st July 2001 and has returned to mainline service. The locomotive with 47 709, left Derby
    on 8th August 2001 to collect 3 x 31's from the Midland Railway Centre and delivered them to
    Carnforth for repainting. 33 108 then towed the 47 to Longsight before travelling to Crewe
    to collect 45 112 which it delivered back to Derby on 9th August 2001. The locomotive is currently
    allocated to Fragonset, Derby and is available for mainline hire.
    Under restoration in 1999.

    Status : 33 109 remains out of service at Ropley, Mid-Hants Railway awaiting attention to two shifted tyres
    from separate incidents in 2000 and awaiting repaired wheelsets from Eastleigh Works.
    The locomotive does work the occasional train and did take part in the recent Mid-Hants Diesel Gala
    double heading the final train of the weekend with 33 208.
    Worked first passenger trains in preservation on 23/5/98 and was then under
    restoration to gain mainline certification, and repaint to BR Blue.

    Current Livery : Despite the full repaint in BR Green complete with the BR Lion, the locomotive retains
    its yellow SR civil engineers markings under the cab side windows! (prev. BR Blue)
    Status : Repairs completed on its heat exchanger and was scheduled to operate at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway Diesel
    Gala on Saturday/Sunday 21st/22nd September.
    Further details on the recent restoration include the removal of ETH and buckeye couplings on both cab ends.
    Locomotive booked to operate the weekend diesel diagram at the Bodmin and Wenford
    Railway on 28th July and 18th August 2001.
    Engine started successfully on 29/7/99 but requires two traction motors to be fitted before can
    move under its own power. Moved a short distance within Bodmin Yard on 21/10/98.
    The locomotive should be hauling passenger trains next year.

    the restoration will now take longer than previously expected.

    Status : On Sat.9th February the loco suffered a traction motor flashover during the 09.00 Bury - Rawtenstall/10.00
    Rawtenstall - Bury and was replaced by Class 40, D335.
    Traction motor repairs were completed to enable the locomotive to perform on the 16th March Sulzer Day at the
    East Lancashire Railway and complete the Saturday diesel roster on 11th May. The locomotive also took part
    in the July Diesel Gala but suffered a failure during the event due to an electrical wiring fault. Locomotive
    repaired later in the month and was rostered to work the Saturday/Sunday diagram on 17th/18th August and
    2nd/3rd November (restricted to Bury – Ramsbottom due to bridge damage between Irwell Vale and Rawtenstall).
    Locomotive scheduled for its long overdue bodywork repairs/repaint soon.
    Operational - worked first passenger trains in preservation on 21/6/97 and has
    been a reliable and regular performer. Stopped early summer 2000 for passing
    too much oil. Since rectified, and following the East Lancs Mega Mix Gala in July
    was due to receive bodywork attention and a full repaint.
    Continues in operational use for 2001 at the East Lancashire Railway, programmed to work some
    trains at the Gala on 8th/9th September 2001 and the Saturday diesel roster on 15th September 2001.

    Status : 33 201 was not returned to traffic in time to appear at the Mid-Hants Railway, Trainspotters Ball III in April 2002
    but made its passenger debut some weeks later at the Midland Railway Centre Gala on 22nd/23rd June.
    The locomotive was also a star performer at the East Lancs Diesel Gala on 3rd – 7th July and also performed
    faultlessly at the Keighley and Worth Valley Diesel Gala on 3rd/4th August.
    Had its engines successfully started on 21st July 2001, the first time since Generator repairs
    and also successfully moved under its own power for the first time in 8 years, completing several
    test runs. Further restoration and repairs are required before the locomotive can be considered
    fully operational.
    Received a repaint in Dutch yellow/grey livery at the Midland Railway Centre in early Summer 2000.
    However, the shade of grey used is considerably darker than that applied in traffic.

    and was moved by road from Toddington to Derby on 16th July. Due for release, on hire to S.W.T.,
    Sept/Oct. 2002.
    At the turn of the year, 202 was moved from Eastleigh TMD to its new preserved home at the
    Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. It was moved by rail from Eastleigh to Southampton
    Western Docks on 24th January by 60 073 and 58 047 as the 0Z12 11.59 EH - Southampton Western
    Docks. On arrival, the locomotive was loaded onto a low loader and moved by road arriving
    at Toddington on the morning of 25th January. After arrival the locomotive had its defective
    triple pump repaired and engines started. The locomotive made its debut in preservation on
    22nd February when it worked the 13.15 Toddington – Gotherington and 13.43 return in tandem with 24 081.
    The locomotive continued to perform throughout the Gala Weekend but suffered from low power due
    to a suspected fault with the generator.

    operations within the yard. The terms of this contract also mean that it is unlikely the
    locomotive will be released to attend preserved railway galas.

    Status : Still suffering from shifted tyres and a broken spring on No. 2 bogie at the Mid-Hants Railway but did
    perform a number of passenger turns at the recent Diesel Gala.
    July 2001 - Taken out of service awaiting repairs to shifted tyres on the Mid-Hants Railway.
    Steam charter ECS duties have been covered by 37308 and EWS traction in the meantime.
    On the afternoon of 20th July 2000, suffered collision damage to cab no.1 following a low speed
    shunting accident at Ropley, striking a steam engine during operations at the Mid-Hants Railway.
    Damage restricted to buffers and slight damage to lower cab.
    Worked the first Class 33 passenger trains in preservation on 21/6/97?
    Mainline certification granted on 13/10/97 became first Class 33 to return to mainline
    use when worked a railtour on 22/11/97. Locomotive was then hired to Prism Rail for
    Cardiff - Rhymney services commencing on 9/1/98 working a daily weekday return
    service (together with various weekend railtours) until a generator failure on 13/5/98.
    Received another generator in August 1998 from 33 204. Mainline re-certified in late
    1998 and worked several steam support tours/ECS in 1999.
