Comments:

PS Pioneer was an iron built paddler serving on the Glasgow to Ardrishaig summer service until 1852 when she sailed from Oban. She had a mishap on 14 March 1862 when she ran aground at Silvercraigs, which resulted in her being towed to Barclay Curle's yard for repairs. She was remodeled to receive a clipper bow and later lengthened in 1874-75 winter and was longer by some 27 feet.. She had a second funnel added at this time (as shown above) and had her mainmast removed. From Oban she sailed to Staffa and Iona, Mull and Fort William as well as Corpach and Gairloch at times. She was in service for over 50 years and was finally broken up in August 1895.
