Comments:
PS Albany was built for the joint fleet of the London & South Western and the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Companies, in 1889. She had a narrow saloon aft, with an alleyway along each side and was typical of the Isle of Wight steamers of the time. The rear deck saloon had a refreshment bar inside and the fore, open deck, was for the use of the third class travellers, which was all well and good when fine, but must have been rather uncomfortable in inclement weather. Whilst she was reboilered in 1902 her career was unremarkable, in that she spent her whole service from either Portsmouth Harbour or Stokes Bay to Ryde. She lasted until 1928 when she was scrapped, having been superceded by PS Merstone.
