Propulsion type: Paddle, two cylinder steeple engine (originally installed in Alma 1855)

Owners: Duncan Stewart, Wemyss Bay Steamboat Co, Messrs Gillies and Campbell

Tonnage: Gross 140 tons

Comments:

Argyle was built by Barclay, Curle for Capt. Duncan Stewart for his Glasgow to Rothesay Service. He sold her the same year to the Wemyss Bay Co and she ran for them, and subsequently for Gillies and Campbell on the Rothesay and Millport services from Wemyss Bay until 1890. She finished her career on the Tay, sailing for Dundee owners. Argyle was flush-decked, 177.3 ft long and had was fitted with the steeple engine from ALMA of 1855, who was broken up in 1865.
