Bonnie Doon, whilst long lived, was not known for her reliability and early on acquired the nick name "Bonnie Breakdoon". Employed originally on the Glasgow to Ayr service, she was transferred to service in North Wales after five years on the Clyde. She lasted only one year here before heading back to the Clyde for service from Wemyss Bay for Capt Alexander Campbell. In 1886 she was chartered to the Bristol Steam Yachting & Excursion Co and such was the interest in her that the following year Peter and Alex Campbell decided that the competition from the railway companies in the Clyde was too intense and they decided to move to the Bristol Channel. In 1890 she spent another season on charter, operating on Belfast Lough. For Campbells, she sailed both on the Bristol Channel and the South Coast, from Brighton, where she is shown here in a picture from the Brian Fisher collection. Bonnie Doon lasted until 1913 when she was sold to Dutch shipbreakers.
