Comments:

This early colour picture comes from the Cyril Perrier collection and was taken by Cyril's father at Newhaven in 1938. It is previously unpublished and I am grateful to Cyril for letting me share this picture with you.

TS Brighton (V) was a quasi sister to TS Worthing, although was slightly larger and quicker than Worthing. Brighton was capable of a fast 25 knots, making her ideal for the Newhaven to Dieppe service, her shallow draught also enabling her to undertake the occasional Channel Islands trip on deputisation. She could carry up to 1450 passengers, split between three classes of ticket and her speed coupled with her high standard of accommodation made her very popular with her passengers. She saw war service as a hospital boat and was sadly bombed and sunk at Dieppe Quay on 24 May 1940.
