Comments:

TS Brighton was the last of the high speed turbine steamers built for the cross channel service. She could sail at a speed of 24 knots, and was capable of taking 1450 passengers from Newhaven to Dieppe in three and a half hours. This picture gives an indication of her power. At high speeds, however she was very thirsty for fuel and economics saw her relegated to a reserve steamer in 1965. In 1967 she was sold for use sailing to the French Coast and the Channel Islands and she was renamed La Duchesse de Bretagne. At that time she was also converted for use as a drive on car ferry, capable of taking 25 cars. Three years later she was withdrawn and scrapped.
