Comments:
Built for the Arran service in Scotland, Brodick Castle was an iron steamer and at the time of her introduction to the South Coast, she was the biggest excursion steamer seen there. She had interesting accommodation, with a short well deck and extended forecastle, extensive promenade deck and a pair of large paddle wheels. Due to high coal consumption she was sold off the Clyde and moved south in 1887. In 1894 she was chartered by The Bristol and Ilfracombe Pleasure Steamers Ltd for use out of Bristol for a season, but the competition was so intense on the Bristol Channel that she did not return the following year. In 1901 she was transferred to Cosens and sailed for them from Bournemouth to the Isle of Wight and Weymouth. In 1908 she moved to the Swanage station but was sold a year later for use as a cattle barge by a South American concern. After having her engines, paddle wheels, funnels, passenger accommodation etc removed she was being towed on the long journey for her new owners, under the name of Peca Nova, but did not get very far, sinking off Portland Bill.
