PS City of Rochester

The above postcard was produced by the photographer, G A Morris of 24 High Street Rochester and was sent on 27 July 1909 by "Lill" to a Mrs G Coleman of 29 York Road, Lower Walmer Nr Deal in Kent. The card is interesting in that it shows very good detail of the bridge. Note the wonderful binnacle, the fire buckets (an essential on any coal fired vessel) and the nameplate of her makers; Messrs Scott of Kinghorn "Engineers & Shipbuilders". The card reads:

Just a card hoping your (sic) are getting on alright with Diddams friend. Can you recognise a face in this photo. I think I can, the one in scarlet (perhaps the child? Ed). Remember me to Silvy, Marie and Birrell. Hope you have a nice time August Monday. What's the use of being a window cleaner if you have to wear the kilts? Kind regards from Lill.

This second picture was taken some 17 years later and shows members of the catering staff on board City of Rochester whilst berthed at Herne Bay Pier in 1926
