This picture was taken in 1890 by Clacton Belle's builders, Messrs Denny's of Dumbarton. Due to the efforts of Ted Groom, at least two of the chairs in the foreground have survived when Ted rescued them from the breaker's yard. The chairs are cast iron framed with hardwood backs and red velvet upholstery. The surviving chairs are still in the posession of the Groom family today and I had the honour of sitting on one of them when I visited Ted's grand daughter Victoria last October. This picture comes from a pre First World War Belle Steamer Guidebook in the W E Groom Collection.
