This wonderful Tariff & Menu card has been very kindly sent to me by Roger Graham, who inherited it with a vast amount of memorabilia when his aunt died in 1990. Roger's aunt and paternal grandparents were regular travellers in the UK from 1898 to 1914 and this card dates from the earlier part of their travels.
The card is a wonderful glimpse into the variety of fare available on RMS Columba on the "Royal Route" circa 1900 and shows that, like on todays modern cruise liners, one could eat around the clock if one desired. I'm not sure that I could manage a beef steak for breakfast and am not attracted by a "glass of Potash", but a bottle of Pol Roger champagne at ten bob (50p) does look managable! Orders please to Mr James Turner the Steward.
I am extrememly grateful to Roger and his ancestors for saving this card and for allowing me to have this, enabling it to be shared with you here.
