Comments:
Built with her sisters, PS Calais and PS Lord Warden, Dover was built as a night ship, but were also used in the daytime when needed. They all had a short operational life as they were rendered obsolete by the more powerful turbine steamers that appeared in the early years of the twentieth century. This was a shame as they were not only good looking boats but were economical on coal and could maintain almost 20 knots service speed. All ships sported only one funnel, the first of the company's steamers to do so. They lasted until 1911 only, with Dover being broken up in Norway.
