PS Duchess of Edinburgh

Builders: Aitkin & Mansell 1884

Propulsion type: Paddle, two cylinder compound diagonal

Owner: Joint Fleet of the London and South Western Railway and the London Brighton & South Coast Railway

Service dates: 1884 - 1908

Tonnage: 342 Gross

Comments:

This ship was a "double ender", having two bows. She also had two funnels which were situated arhwartships, immediately over the padlle shaft. The Duchess was introduced at the same time as her sister, the Duchess of Connaught and they cost £36,800 each when new. The Duchesses were fitted to a high standard for the age and seem to have had uneventful careers until they were sold; Duchess of Edinburgh going overseas in 1908 (1910?) and Duchess of Connaught in 1910, although I do not have a record of their respective final fates.
