Comments:
Used principally on the Heysham to Douglas service, Duchess of Devonshire was a good looking steamer and was capable of around 18 knots in service. She also was used on the Barrow to Belfast service for the Barrow S N Co and came under the control of the Midland Railway in 1906. The card from which this picture comes was posted on 12 August 1910 and the sender reports that he "arrived all right at Heysham after a very rough crossing. Didn't bother me though as I slept through it all". Duchess of Devonshire was withdrawn in 1927 and sold in 1928, when the company introduced new tonnage, when she was renamed Gibel Dersa for service in Gibraltar.
