PS Golden Eagle with evacuees from London in early September 1939

I know that many ex patriates visit this site and that some of them were evacuated from London to the East Coast of England. These pictures show PS Golden Eagle at Gravesend en route to the East Coast of England in September 1939. Do you recognise anyone on board? The above pictures come from contemporary news cuttings and have been lent to me by Mike Charman whose father was Chief Officer on Crested Eagle.

The last three wonderful pictures come by courtesy of John Mason, who served aboard MV Royal Daffodil in her last season in 1966.

The above picture shows children on their way along West St to Gravesend West Station/London, Chatham & Dover Pier

Waiting to board!

Golden Eagle leaving the London, Chatham & Dover Pier at West St. Gravesend with the evacuees around 1st Sept 1939.
