Comments:
PS Greatham was a paddle tug and was completed for £5,450 in 1893 by J. P. Rennoldson for the North Eastern Railway Co. Her speed was a modest 10.25 kts, which was quite sufficient for tender and towing duties. In January 1923 she was transferred to the LNER, whom she served for fourteen year until October 1937, when she was purchased for £675 by Blyth Tug Company. She lasted until May 1958, when she was sold for £650 to Hughes Bolckow at Blyth for breaking up. This card was posted in 1936 to Lewisham and comes from the W E Groom collection. It is displayed here with the kind permission of Victoria Groom.
With thanks to Ron Mapplebeck, Paul Hood and Job van Eijk for help with the history of this tug.
