My thanks go to John Bosworth for restoring this faded postcard from his collection and for allowing me to show the image here.
This steeel built paddler plied the Tamar Estuary and was 110ft long, offering its complement of 366 passengers two classes of accommodation. The forward saloon containing a bar and the rear saloon a more comfortable affair supplying alcohol free refreshments. The aft top deck could be covered with a canvas awning (much as in the case of Kingswear Castle today) if the weather was inclement. An innovation was that she was the first steamer in Plymouth to be supplied with electric light. Whilst only a modest 99 grt she did see service in the Great War, steaming as far as Scapa Flow for towage and tendering duties. Upon her return she was not in good condition but was refurbished and continued in peacetime service until 1928, when she was broken up.
