Comments:

This small, iron built paddler was built for the company on the Clyde and was engined by Messrs Ross & Duncan of Glasgow. She was used as a passenger/cargo boat on Lough Swilly, carrying out ferry duties. She was a simple design and had low powered engines which were installed for functionality rather than speed. Her cargo was carried on board deck and she had very basic accommodation. PS Innishowen had a shallow draught of 6.7 ft and whilst this picture shows her in good condition, it is reported that the fleet was very poorly maintained, hence her relatively short working life. It is likely, therefore that this picture was taken early in her career. The location is believed to be the port of Ramelton on the West coast of Lough Swilly. My thanks go to Trevor Edwards, Garden Designer, Broadcaster & Writer for help in the identification of this location.
