Comments:
Invicta was a typical Denny's turbine and was one of two similar ships launched in 1905 for the SE&CR. The other ship was Onward who later became the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co's Mona's Isle (IV). Invicta sailed for the SE&C Railway from Dover and Folkestone to France until 1923, when she was taken over by the French company SAGA. She continued to ply between Dover and Calais for a further ten years when she was sold again, although I do not have a record of her final fate. She was, however a handsome steamer who acquitted herself well on this busy and often turbulent route. I have broken with my normal tradition and put two images on this page as I think they are both of interest. The picture of her in steam contrasts nicely with the interesting picture showing embarkation at Boulogne. I hope you like them both.
