Philomel was the last of the GSN Co "Classical Birds" and like the other four, were built by J Scott & Co. She was capable of 17 knots and was employed on the Kent Coast and Great Yarmouth services. In 1907 she was sold to the Furness Railway Company and worked between Barrow and Fleetwood. She was sold, after being laid up for a while, in 1913 to TW Wards yard in Barrow for scrapping.
