A record of visits and other events arising from the twinning of Oban and Laurinburg.

2000

April 6th	Plaid Day, in recognition of the role of Scots in the USA.
May 2000	Jimmy and Ila Dalrymple (both originally from Laurinburg) arrives in the Oban area for a week's visit, accomanied by their daughters.
June 2000	Exchange group of 10 students arrives from Laurinburg's Scotland High School, led by Nancy Shelley. They enjoy marvellous weather, and a busy programme, including trips to Edinburgh and Staff, and a farewell ceilidh in Kilmore Hall. Nancy Shelley is Chair of Scotland County Commisioners,and is recognised at a small civic reception by Argyll & Bute Council. Programme for June 2000 - highlights. June 27th - Arrival, and live linkup with WLNC radio in Laurinburg June 28th - breakfast in Oban High School, and school tour June 29th - Civic Reception by Argyll & Bute Council July 3rd - trip to Staffa, courtesy of Oban Rotary club July 4th - lunch with Oban Rotary club, and evening barbeque at Tralee bay to celebrate Independence Day July 5th - depart for Edinburgh, hosted overnight by members of Corstorphine Rotary club July 6th - return from Edinburgh July 7th - visit to Cruachan power station and Kilchurn Castle. July 9th - farewell ceilidh in Kilmore Hall Juy 10th - return to Laurinburg July 11th - lunch with Laurinburg Rotary, to tell their story.
July 2000	Bruce Pinkerton flies out to spend a Senior year at Scotland High. A Laurinburg couple who now live in Arizona pay a brief visit to Oban. (Names to be added)
October 2000	Return visit by an Oban High School group of 10, led by Ann Stewart. The students are; Robert Alexander Alison Clunie Lindsay Dodman Pat Harvey Alice Miller Chris Kay Victoria Oxland Chris Pollard Chris Smalley Helen MacDonald The Hector MacFadyen Band leaves Oban to play some dates in North Carolina, including Laurinburg on October 30th. Unfortunately this is a few days after the Oban High group has returned. Both groups report a wonderful reception and most generous hospitality!
November 2000	Ann Stack from Laurinburg arrives to spend a brief holiday on London with some Oban friends.
