26-jul-06: Talking about nice turns of phrase, 'That's rubbish!' is a good one. The use of 'rubbish' jars with me slightly, but in a way I find fascinating. 'rubbish' makes me think of what you put in a black bin bag, which fits with the above phrase, I suppose, but there's something else I can't put my finger on right now. Perhaps too much mate tea. My head's buzzing.
16-jan-06: Happy New Year To You! Over the 'Christmas Period' we recorded a version of the Robert Burns song Comin' thro' the rye which is intended for broadcast on BBC Radio 1 as part of a Burns Supper programme for One World. Download it from myspace like a hot cake.
15-dec-05: Well, we're actually only on yesterday. Yesterday Lorna and I were recording the Gymshorts' set on multi-track. Lorna is actually quite a bit smaller than me, height-wise. You don't realise these things until it comes to the careful positioning of microphone. I'm digging that, and also a compilation that robbie made for me with the Fall and especially deerhoof, neither of whom I'd, em, 'dug' previously.
06-dec-05: International Airport on myspace, growing fast. There is a live version of 'a vale of twisted sendal' from our first lp up on there to listen to; rock on.
04-nov-05: On a related note - Lorna (UK, drums) 's new group the gymshorts is playing again this sunday 6th nov at scottish hobo society at the bongo club in edinburgh after the success of the recent glasgow show. Tom (UK, gtr) has recently joined as lorna's backer. There are some cool photos from the glasgow gymshorts show, taken by an apple tree.
12-oct-05: Lorna is playing in her new group the gymshorts at stereo in glasgow on sat 22 oct. The rest of us are going along as audience. And we're practising tonight, which I always look forward to with gusto. Don't try and break in while we're not at home though, you will come up against an elaborate Home Alone setup which I prepared just now while the dinner was simmering, also with gusto.
11-Jul-05: Let's see... I enjoyed the Edinburgh show. The bongo club is a cool place. We all went for a walk down to the Parliament building, I'd never seen it before and I thought it looked pretty good actually, from the front. The only photos I had seen were of the back. There was a really great late evening sunlight on Arthur's Seat (actually I believe it was Salisbury Crags). And we had deep-fried mars bar.
05-Jul-05: I still haven't made my diary, but I did post some nice pictures (taken by Maui) from our show in Malmö. I'm into tasty French apricots at the moment. When we were in Paris there were some nice ones in our dressing room, so the next day I went round all the greengrocers to sample before I bought a big sac to take back. sadly none managed the expectation, but I still got some for home (all gone now). Thanks to everyone who stopped to talk at Mo'Fo. I hope you understood my french ok.
28-Jun-05: Malmö was cool. Calvin was good. Rough Bunnies were good too. We ate lots of dill and potatoes. There are some good photos which I am going to post on here soon. Right now I'm getting ready to go off to Paris tomorrow with the pastels and teenage fanclub. Should be good.
19-Jun-05: I am digging the Basil Kirchin cd on trunk, and songs by Peggy Seeger and Elizabeth Cotton on the American Roots compilation. we enjoyed the ABC show but I was disappointed they wouldn't use their cool cinema frontis-lettering board to publicise it. Or maybe they just didn't have enough letters.
10-Apr-05: we are playing at the universal in glasgow on thursday 21st april, with st Deluxe who invited us, and Pete Dowling who I know from Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra.
15-Sep-04: We are going to play a show at mono in glasgow. On thursday september 30th. It is a geographic night and Ali Roberts is playing too. We had a practice yesterday and I thought it was sounding pretty good.
06-Sep-04: Stephen who is our label honcho told me yesterday that International Airport is UK top 100 recording Artistes. Cool! So I went to have a look in Music Week after work today, just to make sure, and there it is. We made a dent - like the high possil meteorite - at number 75 (so we are actually top 75 Artistes).
Manchester was good by the way. We flew in and out (not literally) and Marc was welcoming and friendly. We played Association! (our big hit) with Norman and Gerard... Oh yeah, it was Norman, Gerard, Stephen and Tom who did it. We did some chat, Norman and Gerard played Did I Say, then we all did Reason which is a song on our new record that we hadn't practised. Anyway I think it went quite well. Thanks Marc!
Aug-04: we're going to Manchester! Not today, on saturday. Us and teenage fanclub are going to do a mini session on Marc Riley's show on BBC 6Music. The programme starts at 2pm but we have to get there for 12 - so be early if you want to see stephen's new car...
24-Jul-2004: well, you got some information at last: new single, (geographic proudly presents) ASSOCIATION! cd and 7 inch, versions of forthcoming album track with a great Teenage Fanclub version and cool Channel Mash mix. Some people find it confusing, so let me explain; it's like a heritage-rich cross, it's not a remix. Anyway, the first recordings of a school-age International Airport included a 1992 version of the concept.* Yeah, we were a bit slow, but we still are.
See the DISCO page for more info on ASSOCIATION! (out August 23 - I think).

Then here comes new album. "reunion of island goose" This has been sitting on its own eggs for a while now - there were a few things we had to do first. But now they're done, and so is this. See the DISCO page for more info. There's an advance release in Japan on P-Vine Of Tokyo (PCD-23528). I could be wrong about that catalogue number but I'm right on all the other stuff.

What else? I think that's about enough for today. Let's see - how about a public OATH to the effect that come next week this page will have changed again. But you better not miss it cause I'm not even sure what's going to happen to these words right here.

  with all good wishes,
international airport

PS - here's a quiz I just thought of. You have to guess where I am right now; I can see a golden weather vane atop a high slated turret with blonde sandstone walls. Same time next week.

* Not many people know that Stephen was in Lazy Mary (Runcorn's finest) at about this time. Tom bought their 'Stained' single (Liquid Noise Records - cat. no. LIQ 2 CHEAP) in a Paris bookshop for ten francs not that long afterwards, and the rest you know already. (back)
