What's In A Name?

jscot1.gif (35732 bytes) I have two coasters from Graupners of Harrisburg PA. Although both advertise the same brew, the different styling of the brewer's name qualifies both for my collection.

Why, however, is the beer called "Jolly Scot Ale" and not something like "Jolly American Ale"?

I don't suppose we'll ever know the answer, just putting it down to the marketing department's belief that giving the beer an English name would help it sell better.

UK companies did the same sort of thing in the 1970's and 1980's when they sold lagers with Scandinavian-type names and advertised them using slogans like "I've a liking for a Viking!".
