Here are some queries sent to me by Fred
Martin. Only one remains unsolved!
 |
This beermat advertises
U Svateho Tomase,
a pub in Prague, a beautiful city that Linda and I had the pleasure of visiting in October
1997. We had a most enjoyable lunch in "St. Thomas's", to give it its English
translation, and came away with a few of the beermats ourselves. |
| Schlegel Urtyp certainly had me scratching my head. With French writing and a German
sounding name, it sounded as though it might be Belgian; but there nothing with that name
in my Belgian lists. Fortunately, Gitta Gnudtzmann and Christian Dufrasne have got in
touch to tell me that the company is the Schlegel-Scharpenseel Brauerei from Bochum in
Germany. Christian adds that the company was founded in 1854, some its other brands being
St. Barbara and Drei Schlegel. By the way, does anyone have a copy of this mat spare to
trade with me??! |

Brigand brought the most replies! The beer
is produced by the Belgian brewery Van Honsebrouck from Inglemunster in West Flanders. The
company was founded in 1900 and is the only one outside of the Brussels area to produce
lambic beers. Many thanks to Martin Fisette, Christian Dufrasne, Lars Wybouw, Fernando
Cardoso, Inazio Hernando and Cyril Pagniez. |
| Hero is a fruit drink produced by Bramalto of
Lebbeke in Holland, according to Christian Dufrasne and Lars Wybouw. Marcel Zumstein tells
me that the parent company is Swiss and has a web site at http://www.hero.ch
. Jo Ramakers who now lives in Sault St. Marie in Canada can remember the drink as a small
boy in Holland. |

Black Bottle Whisky is produced by Johnny Walker in Scotland.
Many thanks to Ken of that country who did not leave his surname. |
| Cans Meanz Jobs, I assume to be an English mat extolling the benefits of recycling old
cans in Grantham in Lincolnshire. |
 |
| David MaCarthy of Edinburgh has identified 45 South as a New Zealand whisky and
sent me a picture of another of their beermats. Can anyone say who the manufacturer is? |
 |
 |
| So, can anyone identify this coaster and complete
the page?! |
