Eight Wells beermats from the 1950's to the early 1970's are featured below. The red and white "Wells Bedford Ales" beermat is not made of woodpulp but of a felt material called pliadek. Made by a company in Yorkshire, these beermats were washable and theoretically usable again and again; but the story is that people took many home making them an uneconomic proposition! "The Chequers" is part of a series of thirty-five beermats issued in the early 1970's.
