Grenoble was the second city in France to reintroduce trams, following the example of Nantes. Line A (seen here in the city centre at Place Victor Hugo) was inaugurated in September 1987. Line B followed in December 1990 and C in 2006.

The story of Grenoble's tramway has been one of continuous development - and the most recent extension has been into the vast university area. A short line D in the suburb of St Martin d'Heres is now under construction and it will not be the last new tram tracks to be laid.
