MG promised some "extreme" versions of their Z series cars early on in their development - we are now beginning to get strong hints as to what they meant.
There have been versions of all the range now developed in limited format for racing and just to show exactly what can be done with added power. We have also seen the MG Lola race car and it is the development of the XP20 engine that is now appearing in the rest of the range.
The MGF extreme was the first out of the stable with it's 500bhp XP20 engine and radically re modelled body styling. You can see more on this in specials.

We have also seen the ZT X Power. This has a 500bhp 4.6 litre 4 cam V8 engine. This powers the vehicle from 0-60 in 4.5 secs !!!. The original ZT has been much modified to cope with the "extreme" power with bodywork styling, large spoiler, side skirts , AP Power brakes with 330mm ventilated discs, sports seats , harnesses etc etc. Capable if a top speed of some 190mph !
There is now news of a slightly toned down version of this prototype . The road going version will come in two different power variations - 260bhp and 385bph.. This latter engine will pull the ZT from 0 - 60 in 4.4 secs and run out at a top speed of 175mph - only thing is where can you actually drive the thing in this country !!
