MG X POWER RACE CARS

MG have now re entered official motor sport and have produced three race cars under the banner of a seperate wing of the company called MG Sport & Racing. They will oversee the three main race and rally programmes as well as produce the "extreme" versions of the sports cars.

MG Lola EX257 race car which has now taken part in their first Le mans 24hrs. Sadly neither of the two cars entered finished in the appallingly wet conditions although at one point one of the cars was running in third place. Car 34 retired about 7pm with low oil pressure and water wrecked telemetry . Car 33 soldiered on but was suffering from water in the electrics and a split oil tank - after a lengthy repair the car went out again but at 4.35am the stresses became too much and the car retired sick. Bearing in mind this was one of the most gruelling Le Mans ever the cars performed extremely well. The car competes in the LMP675 class but has a power to weight ratio matching the LMP900 cars. It has been designed and built by Lola, the specialist racing car manufacturer. The car is capable of some 215mph and produces about 500bhp with the XP20 engine. We are all looking forward to the 2002 season when the cars should be fully tested - see you at Le Mans !
