Damaris Hayman began her acting career in repertory theatre at Maidstone, following with an Arts Council tour of The Devil's Disciple. The many years of repertory work included two years at St. Andrew's both acting and directing. She also appeared in the musical version of East Lynne at Richmond and on tour, and several productions at the Theatre Royal, Windsor. She made her first television appearance in The Treasure Seekers.




During her career, spanning over 50 years, Damaris has played the lead in many television productions, including the BBC television 'Doctor Who' adventure 'The Daemons'. Her appearances include 'Memento Mori', 'House of Eliott',several productions in the BBC 'Play for Today' series and the ABC 'Armchair Theatre' series, and episodes of 'Happy Ever After', 'One Foot in the Grave',  'Cross Roads' and 'Super Gran'.

She has worked with many of our leading comedians, and her television work includes appearances in 'Steptoe and Son', 'The Morecambe and Wise Show', 'The Jim Davidson Show', several series with Les Dawson, three series with Dick Emery and two series of 'The Small World of Samuel Tweet'.

Damaris made her 'big screen' debut as one of the terrible girls in the first St. Trinians film - 'The Belles of St Trinians'! Her many appearances in feature films include the 'Pink Panther' series and 'The Missionary'. She played the lead in two films for the Children's Film Foundation - Paganini Strikes Again and Anoop and The Elephant.

Her career includes after dinner and public speaking, numerous repertory and provincial touring stage productions, television and radio commercials, documentaries, BBC radio programmes including unscripted arts programmes and interviews, verse readings, schools programmes, etc., etc.

Damaris lives in Cheltenham and devotes a great deal of her time to animal welfare, being especially concerned with farm animals. For many years she was secretary of FAWCE, a national umbrella committee linking major welfare societies, now disbanded having served it's purpose.
