Amiga
The computer for the creative mind

Imagine a computer with an Operating System that can fit onto two floppy disks. Imagine that it's a multitasking Operating System, with a fast and elegant graphical user interface. Imagine that every part of the OS can be extended or replaced in a system-friendly manner. Imagine that when you plug a new toy in, it's recognised automatically, and made available to your existing applications. Imagine that you can work on several screens with different sizes and resolutions, and swap between them at the press of a key. Imagine that you can read and write PC and Mac disks with the same computer. Imagine that you can run multiple emulated PCs at the same time, and emulate a Mac that runs faster that most real Macs. Imagine that you can download huge amounts of excellent public domain and shareware applications from an organised and constantly updated public archive.
I've been a confirmed Amigan ever since buying my very first A500 , as soon as it became available in the UK. It's still in use every single day. I now own an A4000, which I use for all my computing activities, including creating wonderful programs like SPEW and IFF2XFace , using the net and fooling about with ray tracing . This website and all the graphics in it were created entirely on my Amiga.
Useful Amiga Resources

Any list of Amiga resources must start with the Amiga Web Directory. If it ain't on here, the odds are it don't exist. Another invaluable resource is the incredible Aminet archive (47,000+ files, with more added each day). For a really powerful Aminet search facility, try the Aminet Query search engine.

Of course, the best source for news, discussion, technical queries, rumour, backbiting, pointless quibbling, humour and all the other threads which make up life's rich tapestry are the Amiga USENET groups.

Not only for the Amiga, but of interest to discerning hackers everywhere is the NetBSD Project , the multi platform UNIX clone developed over the net by a team of volunteers. Version 1.3 has recently been released.
