"Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not
truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is
the best". - Frank Zappa.
"If music be the food of love, TURN IT UP LOUD!" - morse.
I can tell that you're dying to know exactly what I've got in my record collection, so I'll have a little rummage
and see what I can find... Let's see...
Ah, yes, there's some
Janis Joplin, and some
Jethro Tull, and here's some
Joni Mitchell and
Jimi Hendrix... Wait just one minute... Someone's been alphabetising my records
while my back's turned!
Ah well, move to the left a bit, and we find
Bob Dylan, B. B. King,
Albert King, and
Albert Collins... Hmm... DAMN strange way of sorting
records. And what on earth is Otis Redding
doing in between Cream and
Charlie Parker? That should be next to
Joe Cocker and
Credence Clearwater Revival, who are actually hiding between
James Brown and
Louis Armstrong Oh, and where should I put the
Spice Girls CD that Auntie sent me for Christmas? (DON'T say it!...)
Books...
Yes, I know that books aren't music. That very helpful Hi-fi repair man has already
explained it to me. This page was kinda short though, so I thought I'd put the obligatory Terry Pratchett
links here.
The L-Space web
The Turtle Moves
Discworld Monthly
And just so you don't think that I read nothing else, I'll mention
James Joyce . If you've ever read 'Ulysses' or 'Finnegan's Wake' and not
understood a single word, you might like to read some
learned criticism of his work. You might not understand any better, but you'll take immense comfort from the
fact that you're not alone. Oh, and if you feel like running your phone bill up a little, you could always read
Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick' online . If you don't
have that much time, try one of Angela Carter's delicious short
stories.
