Notes for: Francis Ernest Vigars

Robert Lewis Vigars states that he was known as "Ernest", was probably the youngest child of the family and emigrated to Australia. The 1881 Census puts Francis Ernest's place & date of birth as Llanfihangel Upper Cardiganshire in 1866. We have failed to trace any of the family in 1871. In 1881 he a scholar of 15 is with his mother visiting their old home area in Cardiganshire & staying with Peter Garland, Mining Engineer & family, at the Lisburne Mines Yspytty Ystwyth. Later that year he is mentioned in his father's will. The following book is listed for sale by Pioneer Books of Australia on the internet in 2001: VIGARS, Francis Ernest: STATION BOOK-KEEPING: A Treatise on Double Entry Book-Keeping for Pastoralists (Sydney: William Brooks & Co.: 1900) First Ed. If they are the same man he was either a bigamist, or, more likely, divorced his first wife.
