Stuart has decided to activate the old Hertfordshire Club Lotus (HCL) tradition, which he invented recently, of occasional lunch meetings. The first was at 1230 in the Three Horseshoes in Letchworth Heath on Thursday, 8 October 98. Stuart, Jim and I attended. It was unanimously declared a success, and a further one should be held: everyone is welcome.
It was been suggested that the second location should be further north in the county, and on Friday so that more can attend. The Brocket Arms was been suggested, and Jim carried out a recce. This was to be our 'Christmas (Pub) Lunch'. Noting that some of our members had a full Christmas eating programme, a light colation was considerd to be entirely acceptable.
Following Jim's recce, it was decided to change the venue to The Cross Keys Pub, Ballslough Hill , Wheathampstead. The lunch was well attended, and Malcolm Ricketts was able to attend. The pub turned out to be an acceptable location, and we were made most welcome. It was agreed by those present that this would be a better location than Pinks, on the grounds that it was in a more central location in the county. However, the next meeting was to remain at Pinks. In fact, we were overtaken by events, Pinks unexpectedly closed, so the next and subsequent meetings were held at The Cross Keys.
The third pub lunch was held on Fri, 12th Feb 99 at The Plough, Tyttenhanger, at about 12:00. Apparently you have to get there early to get a place in the car park. This date was chosen to allow Bob to attend (it's his day off) and the location was chosen to allow Cris Bishop to attend during his lunch break. The plan worked, and a pleasant lunch ensued. Whilst it was agreed to do this kind of event again, at present we all seem to be too busy. Perhaps later in the year.
We were all too busy to meet for another pub lunch until Cristmas 99, when we met for another lunch at the Cross Keys.
