The
Korvus is often considered and old and outdated fighting machine
by many of the new generation of field commanders. This sentiment
has lead to critical oversights and unnecessary losses that a more
experienced and prudent officer could have avoided by giving these
machines the respect they are due.
The
Korvus may indeed have been in field service for over three decades,
but in this time its design has not remained static. The design
for the Korvus is available to almost anyone and even a poorly tooled
workshop on the frontier can fabricate one of these machines. What
this amounts to is a tremendous variation in design and handling
characteristics that can surprise an inadequately prepared commander.
I
have prepared a listing of common modifications made to standard
Korvus design model, I urge every field officer to study these options
carefully, this briefing and its attached schematics could mean
the difference between the lives or deaths of the men under you
leadership or perhaps even your own survival
Scout
/ Recon Variant
Availability: All Tripartite States and Free Colonies
The typical recon Korvus, has been striped of much of its protective
armour in preference of its enhanced speed. Many of these light
variants also remove the standard mounted chain gun in favour of
an enhanced sensor suite and a chin mounted laser designator system.

Mechanics
Weapons
Payload Change [+0]: Remove Mounted Chain Gun, fit a Laser Designator.
Stripped
For Speed [+5 per point]: Heavy Armour may be reduced by up
to 2 points, for each point removed the Korvus gains +1 MV.
Battlefield
Support Variant
Availability: All Tripartite States and Free Colonies
Designed to support advancing troop formations this type of Korvus
sacrifices manoeuvrability for additional protection and usually
enhanced weapon systems. It is this particular model that is often
employed by Free Colonies in their defensive militias, in part because
they usually lack heavy support weapons or properly trained soldiers
capable of using them.

Weapons
Payload Change [+15]: Add an extra Mounted Chain Gun, these
weapons are often mounted on each side of the head rather than under
the nose of the Korvus. The additional weight of the extra mounted
chain gun and its ammo bin reduce the speed of the Korvus by -1MV.
Hardened
Armour [+10]: Either though the use of ultra dense materials
of more usually simply adding extra metal plates the Korvus may
increase its Heavy Armour to 6, but must reduce its MV by -1.
Tripartite
Faction Variants
Availability: Within specific sphere of influence
Each of the Tripartite Nations has its own particular style
of combat and thus its own preferred modifications of its Korvus
units. The Junkers prefer a variant that is modified with a Flame
Thrower; the Viridians have a variant that utilises their advanced
Gauss Cannon technology. While the Syntha often prefer to use Teratosynths
they do optimise the Korvus with their plasma technology to create
a powerful tank hunter.

Junker
'Infernos' Variant [+15]: Remove the Mounted Chain Gun and replace
it with a Mounted Flame Thrower. Note that the on the critical damage
table any hit that would normally hit the chain gun will actually
hit the Flame Thrower, each time it is use their after it works
on a 5+, if it fails or is hit a second time the fuel lines rupture
and a spark from the ignition lighter triggers an explosion. The
Korvus is automatically destroyed, place a large circular blast
template over its position anything caught under it suffers a normal
hit from the Napalm Thrower.
Viridian
'Vanguard' Variant [+20]: Remove the Mounted Chain Gun and replace
it with a Mounted Gauss Cannon.
Syntha
'Alpha' Variant [+20]: Remove the Mounted Chain Gun and replace
it with a Plasma Cannon.
New Equipment
Laser Designator
When the laser designator is 'fired' it is used to designate
a target unit, the laser designator has a range of Medium but does
no actual damage. Any Mortar used to fire on the designated target
is fired with a +0 to hit regardless of its actual range, the usual
penalty for firing indirectly is waived. The laser designation lasts
until the end of the turn, if the Korvus is assaulted or the target
is obscured by another unit, it can no longer designate the target.
Mounted Flame
Thrower
This
is simply an extrapolation of existing Junker technology, it is
both simple and cheap to build and brutally effective on the battlefield.
The fuel supply is mixed to form a sticky gel paste that sticks
to an burns the target, making it far more effective than the standard
Flame Thrower.
