Jesus wants me for a sunbeam is a detailed examination of the hymns sung at the annual anniversary services at Bicester Methodist Church. 

By taking an almost year by year look at the hymns chosen for the anniversary service  since its early days in the second half of the nineteenth century, it is possible to trace the development of hymn singing for children.

Of particular interest is the contribution of the charismatic Sunday School superintendent Mr. S. G. Hedges, and his influence on hymn singing and hymnbooks not only in Bicester, but throughout the United Kingdom.
