Achievements and Experiences
I have been involved in a number of field trips while at UCL including Bristol area, Dorsete
and Cornwall, Scarborough area, the Southern Uplands of Southwest Scotland, Norfolk
Coast, Southern Spain and Amsterdam.

I have completed an independent mapping exercise, the aim of which was to produce a
geological map, field slips, report and cross-section of an area in Northern Spain.  The
project was based primarily on 7½ weeks of individual fieldwork on a succession of
sedimentary rocks from Cambrian to Devonian age in the Villamanin area of
the southern Cantabrian Mountains.

I have taken part in a number of geological field courses while at Isle College including to the
Island of Arran and Derbyshire.  I have also taken part in a number of day trips while with the
Archaeology course to Flag Fen, Stonea Camp,  Grime’s Graves and Colchester.  As a Museum
Volunteer, I helped create a new geology exhibit at the Wisbech and Fenland Museum.

Additional Qualities
My time at UCL has provided me with a broad basis of knowledge in the geological sciences.
The course has also provided me with analytical, numerical and problem solving skills through
coursework and fieldwork and communication and interpersonal skills through presentations,
seminars and written reports.  I have gained organisational skills while working as a Lab
Technician (physics and co-ordinated science) at Springwood High School.

During my time at UCL I have had to work under different conditions with a varying workload,
which has required effective time management.  I have experience of working both on my own
initiative and working with others, especially during fieldwork where teamwork is often essential.
I have also had some experience of lab based and field based science while at the Isle College.

I have gained experience of using computer software including Windows 98, Word 2000,
WordPerfect, Works 2000, QuatroPro, Excel, Paradox, iPhotoPlus4, MGI PhotoSuite SE and
the Eudora, Netscape Messenger and Outlook5 e-mail programs.  I have also used Workbench
(2.05 and 3.1), MiniOffice and ProData on the Amiga.  I have experience of surfing the Internet
using Internet Explorer5 and Netscape Navigator.  While collecting minerals and fossils
I have acquired some basic experience of cataloguing and computer databases.

Personal Interests and Hobbies
I enjoy listening to most types of music, cycling, walking and camping.  I have been on walking
and camping holidays along parts of the south coast (Aug. 1998) and to Keilder Water, Southern
Uplands, Hadrian’s Wall and the Lake District (Sept. 1997).

I am interested in computers (games and serious) and I own an AMD K6-2/550MHz, an
Amiga A1200 Tower 68040 14MHz and a substantially upgraded Amiga A600 68030 33MHz.

I am currently constructing and maintaining 'BashRox', my own amateur geology and mineral
collecting web site.  I am also maintaining, BinarySunset.net contains scenic photographs
themed on sunset, sunrise, dusk, moonrise, after dark and special effects & artwork.
A fourth website, Virtual Tipple features cocktail recipes is currently under development.
I am currently working on Petals By Design, a website for a friend's floristry business.

I enjoy reading popular science magazines.  I also enjoy archaeology and collecting & cataloguing
minerals, rocks and fossils.  I am a fan of motor sport and have followed Formula 1 Grands Prix
for many years (I look forward to watching the Jaguar team improve in 2001... or maybe 2002...
or maybe 2003).  I also watch Indycar, Touring Cars and Rally whenever I get the chance.
