Coping with Stress

First we will need to define the problems which are causing our stress. In the work place this may be easy to define but you should look everywhere.

The next steps in coping with stress are to:

  1. reduce the stressful situation if possible
  2. learn to be assertive, we should feel free to say what is bothering us not to get overly angry or to hide our feelings.
  3. learn to manage our time, to organise
  4. Learn to relax - slow our breathing, tense and release our muscles, meditation, yoga or self-hypnosis
  5. laugh - there can be humour in many situations, look for it or just enjoy something totally
  6. exercise - regular aerobic exercise increase endorphin production which acts as an anti-depressant
  7. talk to people - express your anger to release it, talk about the problem not the trivia around you (this is why you need to define the stress first). Get help from you family and friends, management, Relate, Samaritans.
  8. assess yourself - understand your strengths and weaknesses, your  goals, and identify the situations which cause you stress.
