| Acupressure | from Japan and China this treatment is
based on Acupuncture. It is said to improve the body's ability to Heal
itself thereby preventing illness, and improving energy levels. The energy
(Qi) of the body travels along channels called Meridians and the flow is
regulated by applying pressure.
The treatment is particularly effective in the treatment of pain, insomnia, back pain, headaches, digestive problems. Related therapy, Acupuncture This ancient technique is used to balance the Yin and Yang of the body by using needles applied to the energy channels to alter the flow of Qi. Your practitioner must be well qualified and all needles must come from sterile packs (disposable). |
| The Alexander Technique | This technique is based on the idea
that if our posture is correct then all our body's functions will be able
to work correctly, with the minimum of muscular effort.
It involves the observation of the body and posture during all activities, walking sitting etc. and the retraining so that the correct posture can be used. The technique is to manipulate the body gently to teach the correct position, or motion. Stroke victims, and some physical disabilties can be much improved using this technique. |
| Chiropractic | This relatively new technique is based
on the idea that any skeletal problems may result in symptoms unrelated,
because of damage to nerves and blood vessels leading to the organs.
Migraines, asthma, digestive problems and many others respond to treatment, but it is mainly used to treat back and neck pain. The treatment involves the manipulation and movement of the bones, by massage and physical movement of the arms, legs etc. |
| Massage | Massage is an ancient technique which
can probably be called the oldest.
Therapeutic massage contains elements of Reflexology and Shiatsu, and is to promote healing by giving the relaxation we all need to gain health. Another effect is to make use of food and to aid in the elimination of wastes and toxins. Skin tone and elasticity are usually improved in a similar way to that achieved by exercise. The technique is generally suitable for everyone, however those with thrombosis or other blood disorders are advised to talk to their doctor before starting treatment. |
| Osteopathy | This therapy is concerned with the
mechanical problems of the body, when the skeleton, muscles, joints and ligaments
do not work in harmony.
The joints and skeleton are manipulated and massaged to restore movement after damage or consistent hard treatment, or to build up muscle when it has become wasted. |
| Reflexology | This method of massage of the feet in
particular for diagnosis and treatment originated in China around 3000BC.
Reflexology is also called Zone Therapy after it was introduced to
America. The Zones end at the hands and feet and are channels for the
energy Force of the body. Application of pressure to the hands and feet is
thought to unblock the energy channels, relieving pressure and hence
symptoms like pain, and at the same time healing any damage.
It is a quick and effective treatment for pain, and treatment of digestive disorders, asthma and arthritis in particular. Patients with Diabetes, some Heart disorders, osteoporosis, and some other disorders are recommended not to follow these treatments. Ask your Doctor before trying this treatment. |
| Shiatsu | This originated in China, around 2000
years ago, but has been influenced considerably by the Japanese, and it
has only recently become well known in the west.
Shiatsu is particularly good at relieving those illnesses which do not respond to orthodox treatments like insomnia, headaches, back aches, anxiety etc. A change in lifestyle or exercise may be part of the treatment. The energy (Ch'i, Prana, or Ki) in the body flows along channels called Meridians. The Chakras are thought to all lie on one of these channels, the Spiritual Channel. There are thought to be a number of energy layers around the body, the Auras, associated with different aspects of the body and spirit. Once again there are some disorders which should not be treated by Shiatsu. Ask your Doctor. Related therapy, Do-in However the patient must be active and fit, as the treatment involves exercise to achieve the manipulation in a similar manner to Yoga. |
