Occult Healing |

For some the Occult can cause a negative reaction, they have often been seen as sinister in the past. However these Mystical arts have just as much a capacity for Good as they have been thought of as being evil. Many have the philosophy that whatever you give (good or evil) will come back to you threefold so understandably practitioners do not wish to harm anyone. The word Occult means "that which is kept hidden" and nearly everyone is afraid of things we know nothing about. Much of the fear of Spiritual Healing is related to the activities of the occultists like witchdoctors and spiritualists.
| Shaman | A shaman has been known to harm or to heal as they are usually the keepers of order in their society. The literal translation means "he who Knows". Often the cause of illness was thought to be an avenging Spirit and the Shaman was to cure by appeasement, change of thinking of the patient so the Spirit was not offended or ultimately driving off of the vengeful spirit. |
| Spiritualism | The Spiritualist Church began in America in 1848. The Healing was very minor then but has now become one of the most important features of the movement. The patient's faith is irrelevant, healing occurs by the divine intervention of Spirit and the healer acts as a channel from the spirit world. |
| White Witches | These are the European embodiment of the Witch Doctor. Most healing until the advent of modern medicine in the 1900's was carried out by "folk healers", the white witches. Many of they herbal remedies are now essential in modern medicines, white witches still practice in many Mexican/American communities as they object to the anglo-saxon assimilation. |
| Witch Doctors | Are known as the "keepers of the Flame". The soul is required to be healed as well as the body. This ancient kind of healing was boosted by the belief not only in the Witch doctors healing powers but their use of Magic as well, they had a huge pharmacy of herbal and even medicinal treatments. They worked an apprentice scheme and most Witch Doctors begin their learning very young. Death was not considered to be a natural phenomenon so the Witch Doctor was to act as priest to guide the spirit and find out who was to blame and appease the dead persons spirit by punishment if needed. |
