On the night of the 1851 Cencus he was living at home with his parents at Menford Lane in Kilmarnock and was 16 years old, and his occupation was given as printers Dyer and Bonnet Cropper, so he must have joined the Army after April 1851. Charles came to Australia in 1856 and apparently married his sister in law Ellen or Helen Dougherty Nee Mc'Cully,and lived in the Burnett River area of Queensland before moving inland to the Gayndah area He married his wifes sister Mary after Ellen died in 1896. He was associated with Redbank Station at Eidsvold for many years and his seventh child Robert was born there. After he married Mary they moved to Fairymead near Bundaberg, the electoral Rolls for 1905,1906 and 1908 show them to be there and then the trail is lost until the 1914 Electoral Roll shows them at Bororen a few miles to the west where he died in 1915 where his occupation was given as Sugar Boiler although the rolls show him as a labourer. He may have been a Publican when he was at Red Bank Qld. The Post Office was unable to supply any other information on the date of his resignation or where he went from there.He was still with the Post Office in 1915. Robert and Louisa must have first met in Goondiwindi in 1884 when he was posted there by the Postal and Telegraph Service as an assistant line repairer. He was about 18, and she was about 15. He was in Goondiwindi for about three years before being posted to MacKinley. Robert and Louisa separated before July 1909.Robert was born at Redbank Station between Gayndah and Eidsvold in 1866.In 1884 he was employed as an Assistant Line Repairer (Apprenticeship?) at Hawkwood on a wage of 100 Pounds a year and in 1886 he was transferred to Goondiwindi in the same job at 120 Pounds per year, We think that this is when he met Louisa Sarah Gibson,who he married on 2 August 1892. On 1st July 1889 he was transferred to Mackinlay in Western Queensland as Line Repairer in Charge on a salary of 150 Pounds per annum. From there he was sent to Palmerville in the Queensland Goldfields in the same job and at the same salary until 1901 when he was moved to Bollon in South East Queensland in the same job and at the same salary plus 26 Pounds for his wife assistant. In 1908 he was moved back out west to Kynuna south of Mackinlay and his wife and he separated and she went home to Goondiwindi where her parents were, and in 1909 Robert was transferred to Brisbane Mail Branch as a Letter Carrier until 1915 when we lose track of him until 1994 when we found his grave in Eidsvold Cemetary near where he was born. We don't know exactly where he went from there but we do know that about the age of twelve or thirteen he started work as a drover in Western Queensland. On 3 December 1914 he joined the 11th Light Horse at age 19 at Goondiwindi on the Queensland N.S.W. border where his mothers family lived and his mother was living at the time. From the time he enlisted he would have been at a training unit until 16/2/15 when he sailed from Australia to Gallipoli where he was taken on strength of the 5th Light Horse on 3/10/1915, He remained on Gallipoli until 13/12/15 being one of the last Light Horsemen to be evacuated from the beach to the Hired Transport Anchises, disembarking at Alexandria, Egypt on the 25/12/15. On the 26th he was transferred from the 5th L.H. to the 11th L.H. at Maadi and and the next entry on his record shows him as being taken on strenth on the same date at Heliopolis. The next entry shows him being marched in to C.T.&amp;.C.B.D.,Tel el Kebir on the 30/4/16 and then marched in to Moaascar on the 4/7/16 then on 16/7/16 promoted to Lance Corporal at Ballah. On the 21/4/17 he was wounded in action at Khirbit and admitted to 14th Australian General Hospital at Abassia with a gunshot wound to the left arm and discharged from there to the 4th L.H. at Moascar where he was until 23/6 /17 when he was transferred back to the 11th L.H at Tel el Fara where on the 30/6/17 he was promoted to temporary Corporal and on the 13/10/16 to full Corporal. His next problem was a case of tonsilitis and he was admitted to Hospital at 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance E.E.F.* on 9/2/18 returning to duty on 9/2/18 with the 11th L.H. On the 11/5/18 he was promoted to temporary Sergeant and on 10/8/18 to full Sergeant. His next move was to School of Instruction, Leitoun still with the 11th L.H. from 24/4/18 until 14/9/18 when he returned to duty with A Troop B Squadron, and on 26/9/18 when he was wounded again this time in an accident when he dislocated his elbowand was admitted to hospital on the 8/10/18 at Port Said and on 30/10/18 transferred to a rest camp also at Port Said and from there on the 16/11/18 back to Moascar and the 4th L.H.Regt. and rejoined the 11th L.H. at E.E.F. and then from there on 8/2/19 to the 74th Casualty Clearing Station with Influenza for one day and back to 11th L.H. From there he left Port Said for England on 24/4/19 on 10% leave on board the H.T.Caledonia and returning to Australia on H.T. Port Melbourne on 20/8/1919. He then went to work for his Uncle on a cattle station at Bloomsbury near Mackay QLD. and in 1923 he bought his own station, Glencoe, west of Bloomsbury. In 1924 he married Maud Alice Considine at Bloomsbury and they lived on Glencoe station until she died in 1944,and Charlie stayed there until 1967 when he sold Glencoe and went to live in Proserpine where he died in 1990. When Ellen died on March 20, 1896 Mary and Charles made it legal. Marys first child to Charles was born in 1868 then Ellens last was born in 1869 and Mary had her next one in 1871. Sometime after 1915 when Charles died Mary came to Brisbane and the Electoral Roll has her (possibly) as a domestic at Mrs. Mallors,Brookes Street, Bowen Hills in 1922. Mary died in Brisbane in 1929 and is buried in Brisbane possibly in Toowong. Mary came to Australia at the age of 16 on the Queen of the South with her brother George (18) and Thomas Doherty (23) in 1864.(Charles youngest brother). .
