VICARS LETTER

Dear Friends
The famous Hollywood actor Clark Gable, was the Tom Cruise of his day. Not only was he considered handsome he was also romantic. One day he checked into a small-town hospital for an illness. The nurses were besides themselves about having such a dishy actor in their hospital.
One nurse was stationed at his bedside to make sure he was ok and keep the other nurses at bay - I think she was a matron type. Gable got a bit fed up with her, because she was always there. He couldn’t turn or move without her watching him. He finally indicated that he would like to be alone so that he could sleep for a little while.
The nurse said to him, "Now, if you want anything at all, just pull on this cord." Clark Gable smiled at her and said, "Thank you, my dear - what is the cord attached too?" The nurse smiled at him for the first time and said gleefully, "Me."

The 1st of May is Ascension Day, the day when we remember Jesus returning to the Father after his resurrection. When he had left them for the last time the disciples knew that they were still linked to Jesus and connected to God. Jesus may have gone away physically, but he was still with them. They didn’t know what the future held, but they were convinced that they still had a relationship with the one who held the future.

On Thursday 1st May the 3 Parishes will be gathering at Thorpe Salvin for a service to say farewell to Canon David and Kathryn Bliss. Their last service at Todwick will be on Sunday 11th May and David will be installed as Vicar of Rotherham on Monday 2nd June. It would be wonderful if you could come along as we say thank you and goodbye to both David and Kathryn who will be dearly missed and have been good, encouraging and supportive friends over the years. Please remember the family in your prayers over the next few weeks.

With my love and prayers.

             Gary
